Hill Arboretum, then look no further than Monterra Apartments in
Bellingham. Our friendly community offers a
variety
of one- and two-bedroom floor plans to fit your needs
conveniently
located near Western Washington University and the historic
arboretum. Whether you're a student, faculty, or staff, you can
enjoy independent housing off-campus but still near wherever you
need to be including this expansive second-growth forest where you
can connect with nature between classes.
With 180-acres of forest near your home, it'll be easy to explore
the beauty of the Pacific Northwest without traveling too far.
Adjacent to Western Washington University's campus, this naturally
wooded and expansive space is home to a variety of trees and
vegetation including Douglas Firs, Bigleaf Maples, Blue Elderberry,
Indian Plum, and more. It is home to both native and nonnative
species and is jointly managed by the city and the university.
Visitors can enjoy more than five miles of public trails for
walking, running, and in some spots, cycling.
Some unique features of the park include an 80-foot wooden
observation tower that provides stunning aerial views of Bellingham
Bay. There is also a hand-cut tunnel, which was built in 1923 and
originally used for car traffic in the early 1900s, that you can
walkthrough. Cars are no longer allowed through the tunnel and it
is now part of a trail. You'll notice that its tall, thin shape was
created for cars like the Model T, which was popular during that
time.
