The summer of 2020 is definitely like none that we’ve experienced
before—but the changes that this year has brought don’t mean you
need to miss out on all of the summer activities near Bellingham,
WA. There are plenty of things to do to get your dose of outdoor
adventure while still keeping yourself and others safe and
healthy.
Here are just a few of the ways you can cool off, chill out and
take advantage of all of the sights and sounds of Bellingham’s
summer activities this year:
Hiking:
Challenge yourself this summer to explore the many hiking trails
that wind through the region. North Cascades National Park is
popular with outdoor adventurers, who pound the pavement on more
than 400 miles of trails. Mount Baker is also a hiker’s dream, with
challenging terrains that reward you with eye-opening scenery.
Farmer's Markets:
Stock up on produce and other fresh foods at the area’s farmer’s
markets, which is a perfect way to give back to local,
independently owned businesses, who could use our support now more
than ever. Every Saturday, downtown Bellingham’s Depot Market
Square becomes foodie central, as does the Blaine Farmer’s Market,
which also includes a flea market area the last Saturday of the
month.
Exercise:
Get your adrenaline pumping with the many summer activities that
involve safe, outdoor exercise. For instance, swim, canoe, or kayak
in one of the area’s pristine lakes, like Lake Whatcom. Or, rent a
paddleboard or sailboat to explore Bellingham Bay. If your idea of
summer fun is more geared toward land, there are lots of socially
distant things to do that still challenge you and get the
competition going, such as disc golf, which can be played at five
local courses.
Eat and Drink:
While some summer activities have been canceled, the fun is still
on at many outdoor venues. Put your corn hole skills to good use at
a tournament hosted by Bellewood Farms & Distillery, where you can
sip and snack while you play. If sustainability is important to
you, don’t miss one of the best things to do to support local
farms: the Whatcom County Farm Tour at the end of the summer.
Nearly a dozen local farms open up their land to visitors at this
popular tour, which features plenty of opportunities to get a real
taste of the food and drinks these local businesses serve up.
So lather up the sunscreen, put on your walking shoes and get out
and about to explore all of the summer activities in Bellingham,
WA.
